Facial Scaring Routine
This topic alone is one of the main reasons I created this website and my instagram @jennylouwrites. Conversations that I have had on instagram already have made this all worth it. When people are dealing with scars, especially scarring on their face, it can be an extremely sensitive time. It is so hard to explain to other people just how vulnerable this shift can be to adjusting to a scar no matter how big or small. Our face is a huge part of our identity. It is what we look at every single day. Think of that. For basically 28 years, my face is what people see of me first, what I look at when I pep talk to myself in the mirror and truly a tremendous part of my identity. Coping with my scarring wasn't always easy and that is why I have become so passionate about sharing it. Also, I felt quite a bit lost in the beginning. When I got home from the hospital I had no idea what to do. I was given a packet of instructions from the doctor that had a lot of short term information about healing scars, but not much past that. Everything else I learned was on my research. Me asking the questions, seeking to find more knowledge. I felt like I owed it to myself to do everything I could to fully heal.
My Dr. did talk to me about scar sheets and their importance, but I knew there had to be more. So here is my basic day to day routine. Skin care is expensive, but it does last and it is worth it!! Right when the accident happens short term scar care looks vastly different then long term. Scar sheets are for long term care. You won't want to wear them until there is no longer scabbing or any ability for the wound to re-open. Yet, I do believe scar sheets are the most important product on this list. For short term care, keep the scar layered with Vaseline and lightly rub off the top layer so it never scabs over with salt water. You don't want any crusty, hard scabs because that is when deep scarring happens. Keep your wounds clean. Long term care, have a good daily routine, wear scar sheets and continual laser treatements. For scar sheets I found that the best way to wear them for a max amount of time is to sleep with them on.
